What do you do when you arrive in the city half an hour early for an appointment? Why sketch from the carpark, of course!  As much as I love the idea of just sketching on the street, in truth – I thought that sketching the trees next to the freeway was a great way to test the “early morning plein air” thing that I am keen to explore.  Nothing fascinates me more than light and atmosphere since I first spotted the Monet painting of the Gare Saint-Lazare.  Admittedly, this is a long way from a Monet, but I’m sure he’d be pleased to know I was trying to channel him for 15 minutes this morning.
